Twenty Nineteen: Consider adding a slide-out animation when the touch menu is closed

Description

For the mobile menu, we have a nice slide-in animation for when the menu opens, but we do not have a slide-out animation when the menu closes. This would be a nice additional level of polish to include.

Current slide-in animation for reference:

I appreciate that this isn't your problem because animations already exist on across the theme, and you're just asking to make it consistent. I'll mention it anyway..

Adding transitions can introduce confusion with the focus order, as it introduces a time delay before people can navigate. If you're a keyboard user and you pressed "close" and then tabbed before the animation finished, you would navigate inside the menu you just thought you closed. This may be particularly confusing to people with visual impairments as they may have no knowledge of that transition.

It would be great if those animations could be turned off via a site-wide setting for the user, i.e. by tying those animations to a certain class and adding/ removing that class based on that site-wide setting.

  • Keywords close added

This to me would have made sense to me close to the release but I am not sure it does now in light of the theme having been out for a while. I am going to as a result note put this as a recommendation to close. Thank you.
