    initial v1
1 I ran into an issue that is either the same as this or possibly related. I'm using the User Role Editor plugin to manage user roles and capabilities. I'm also using The Events Calendar Pro plugin. I have a test site that's had a bunch of plugins installed and uninstalled for testing. The feature image meta box isn't displaying when creating a new Event post unless the edit_posts capability is granted. However, when I install these two plugins on a newer WordPress site, I no longer have to have the edit_posts capability added to the user role for the feature image metabox to be displayed. I tried digging into a bunch of different areas and haven't made any progress identifying what plugin, setting, or other variable is causing the difference in behavior. I would have jumped for joy if I'd had consistent results and matched it up with the issue in this bug report. But not sure what's going on if it's working on one site and not the other when this is supposedly an issue with CORE. I've also tried using the Gutenberg plugin on both sites and it doesn't seem to make a difference. These are the capabilities I've ensured are identical on both sites:
1I ran into this issue when trying to set up a user to only have access to create, edit, publish, and delete events using the popular The Events Calendar plugin by Modern Tribe. To reproduce, you have to enable the block editor option in the event plugin and then assign the following permissions below. Without adding edit_posts the feature image metabox isn't presented.
