Cropped Image Sizes are too larger than original

Description

Today I noticed that WP cropped image sizes are multiple times larger than original file. For this reason I can not set "large" / "medium" in attachment image functions.

Cropped images having a larger file size than the original is being tracked in #36477 so I'll mark this as a duplicate.
