Description

I will add a photo.

  • Then when I add it to a web page, the web page crops off the top and bottom of the photo.
  • I then realized I need to resize the graphic so that WordPress doesn't cut off the top and bottom of the photo.
  • I then need to PERMANENTLY DELETE the photo.
  • In my computer, I then resize the photo in Photoshop.
  • I then upload the new re-croped/revised photo to WordPress.
  • Then I add that new photo to the web page.
  • Then Word Press uses the OLD PHOTO THAT I PERMANENTLY DELETED AND WILL NOT USE THE NEW PHOTO THAT I JUST UPLOADED.

HERE IS THE EXAMPLE:

Hyundai Announces UAM Division
https://evtol.news/2019/11/04/hyundai-announces-uam-division/

  • I uploaded this photo.
  • WordPress cropped the top of the head off this portrait.
  • I DELETED THIS PHOTO FROM WORDPRESS ON NOVEMBER 3, 2019.
  • I THEN CROPPED MOST OF THE SUIT SO THAT IT WAS MORE OF A LANDSCAPE PHOTO.
  • I RE-UPLOADED THE NEWLY CROPPED PHOTO TO WORDPRESS.
  • I THEN ADDED THE THE NEWLY CROPPED PHOTO TO THE ARTICLE.
  • BUT WORDPRESS IS USING THE PERMANENTLY DELETED PHOTO ON THIS WEB PAGE.
  • WORDPRESS IS NOT USING THE LATEST PHOTO THAT I UPLOADED TO WORDPRESS.
  • WHEN I PERMANENTLY DELETE A PHOTO, I WANT IT PERMANENTLY DELETED.
  • WHAT IS WRONG HERE?

Permanently deleting a photo should be a very simple task. Why is WordPress refusing to permanently delete a photo?

@mikewestcoast

Viewing the source-code of your site, I see you are using the Jetpack Site Accelerator/Photon CDN to serve your images. As noted in the limitations section of the Site Accelerator information page it is not possible to invalidate images on the CDN without renaming the file.

Jetpack is a service of WordPress.com unrelated to the self hosted version provided at WordPress.org. Please contact WordPress.com's support team if you have further questions.

I've closed this ticket as invalid, which in this case is trac's slightly unfriendly term to indicate I've referred you to a plugin author.

Okay, it worked. I didn't understand your explanation at first because I have no idea what Jet Pack is and I'm not the owner of the website, I'm just the Webmaster. But now, I get it. Simply rename the photo you want to re-upload to WordPress so that WordPress will recognize the photo as a different file name.

Very good. I tried it and it worked. Thanks!
