Hi,

Deleting a page does not delete its permalink.

Hey @wallace97 welcome to WordPress Trac!

I just tested this by deleting a published page and the slug was released, making the previously used permalink invalid.

Can you confirm this is occurring for you with all plugins deactivated and using one of the default themes (Twenty Twenty, etc). If so, can you add more information about the steps you're taking when seeing this occur?

I followed Step 6 in this guide ​https://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/beginners-guide-to-troubleshooting-wordpress-errors-step-by-step/ and it seems to have solved the issue. Thanks anyway for your quick response!
