Description
For years when uploading media it often goes into the 2014\02 folder and I never understood what I was doing wrong.
Yesterday I uploaded using the button to choose my file (vs drag and drop) and it properly went to the 2020\04 folder. Then I had to edit the file. I deleted the first upload and did drag and drop into the Add New screen. It showed up in the 2014\02 folder. I then uploaded the same file again using the button to select it. It goes to the 2020\04 folder. I believe the 2014\02 folder is the first date folder available. I can't login to CPanel to verfiy, but pretty sure this is right.
I suspect something is wrong with drag and drop loading of media. This was a .pdf, but I don't believe the file type matters.
I also upgraded to 5.4 yesterday. I think I upgraded after uploading the files.

Today I had to do the same thing. No matter the method I used to upload, I kept getting the 2014 year folder.
I switched my theme to TwentyTwenty, tried again, and it got the correct folder. Must be my theme.
Can you point me to the area of Theme PHP that controls this? The theme I’m using is no longer supported.
Thanks.

Thanks for the follow-up! The theme's functions.php file would be the first place to check, but it can also include other files. Please try the support forums for further troubleshooting: https://wordpress.org/support/forums/.
Hi @MagicTH,
Welcome in WordPress Trac. I tried to replicate the issue you mentioned, both using an image and a PDF, but I can't replicate it. My files are always uploaded to the latest correct folder. Can you try to de-activate your plugins and use the default theme and see if the issue persist?
