Description
Hi there, I would like a feature to create custom short links.
For example our website is for a community center and we create enrollment forms every year for various workshops. I would like to share the link on social media as well as on the printed fliers but instead of www.longwebsitename.com/registration/2020workshops/videoediting I would like to create a short link of www.longwebsitename.com/video2020 or even better use a second shorter domain name www.short.com/video2020
This feature would be amazing and would help in so many ways to get out programs out there easier and faster.
Sincerely,
Gabriel

Agreed, this is plugin territory, or even the territory of "use a different project".
YOURLS has been around for many years, and has good support in all major CMS's, including WordPress plugins to handle it. It can do short URLs, generate statistics and tracking info from their use, etc. It works well when you give it its own short domain too. It's very lightweight, much lighter than WordPress is.
I recommend that for your needs, using WordPress to generate and redirect to short URLs is somewhat overkill.
Hi there, welcome to WordPress Trac! Thanks for the ticket.
This sounds like plugin territory to me. There are plugins like Shortlinks, Custom Permalinks, or URL Shortener that seem to handle it well.
