Description

Hello WordPress Wizards,

I am a bit late to learning about this Update - I am currently on the Latest Version of WordPress however: https://make.wordpress.org/core/2019/10/11/updates-to-image-processing-in-wordpress-5-3/

For months I have been talking to support teams and Developers before finding this article above. - Unfortunately I have had no luck with any ideas or information from them until finding this Post.

Since November 2019 (The first content I have added since the 5.3 Update) I have had an issue with Uploading Images.

For example I will upload an image at 250x250 pixels. However when it is displayed on the page the "Intrinsic Sizing" will be 624x468.

Inside of the Media Library it still says the dimensions are "250x250" however Right Clicking the Image > Open Image In New Tab - Displays the image at 624 x 468. - Its creating different sizings and now choosing the wrong one (e.g - not picking Original Dimensions)

I want to note. This is only for images uploaded SINCE this 5.3 Update.

I can still insert previously uploaded images that are stored in the Media Library and they are the correct Dimensions on the page.

Attached Image Below showing:

I have disabled Themes and Plugins and the Issue still occurs.

Note: I am having this issue only on my LIVE site. My Development site with the same themes and Plugins does not get this error - so it was potentially a problem on Installing the update?

From the timing and what the 5.3 Update included, I feel as though it is related to this 5.3 update.

Thanks!
Alex

P.S This is my first WordPress.org post - So I apologize if I am in the wrong area for posting this kind of question. Have a great day :)

Hello, can I get any updates on this issue?
I'm honestly not sure if my ticket is even in the right place to be reviewed or not.

It has been stuck in "Awaiting Review" for 2 Weeks, just want to make sure there is some movement :)

Thank you!

Hello @techgmm ! We had some discussion around this issue in the recent Media component meeting and were having a hard time reproducing your issue. Is there any way that you can share with us some source images that you are seeing the issue with intrinsic sizing mismatch? I see that in your screenshot the image on the right is 624x468 in the url of the jpg. Is is my understanding that the image would be expected to be different size in your theme layout possibly because of the aspect ratio difference.

I could be misunderstanding the issue entirely but to me it sounds like your hope is the render of the image on the front end should remain the same size for each of the grid elements in your screenshot? If you could upload some of the images that are giving you problems and let us know which theme you are reproducing it in, we can better identify where the conflict is.

Thanks so much for your first report!

Hey @antpb !

Current Theme: Astra
Tested Themes: Astra, Twenty Nineteen, Twenty Twenty

Regardless the theme the issue continues.

I just got reminded of another bug while looking at this deeper, you will see inside my attached document that the uploaded images now show enlarged and not at their native dimensions as they used to. Something strange is happening... (Once again I definitely understand if you cant reproduce it) my development site doesn't have this issue. But by looking at the Update notes for 5.3 it seems like it could be related to what was worked on during that time

Please read the document here with more in depth examples and then I have also attached the Files mentioned inside the document :)

Thank you for looking into this Anthony and Team :)
Hope this helps! Let me know If you have anymore questions!

Hello @antpb

I just want to make sure this ticket is still being looked into :)

Do you guys only get to do Media Component meetings once a month and compile all the tickets to discuss then? Perfectly fine, just making sure this won't get lost!

Thank you!

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
