I'm sorry to hear you are having issues with WordPress.

Does the issue still happen with all plugins disabled and a default theme (Twenty Twenty) activated?

Also, are you seeing any JavaScript errors in your browser console?

The jQuery section of the ​WP 5.5 troubleshooting list has some more details.
