#50908 closed enhancement (wontfix)

Make File URL field click to copy

Description

With 5.5 a new accessibility improvement was made so that you could copy media links by clicking a button rather than having to select and copy the url manually. This is great, and will be helpful to many people both with and without accessibility requirements. I'm suggesting we take it one step further, and make it so if you click the URL field itself, that would also copy the URL.

I have seen this feature around the web on various sites, and think it would really round out and "polish" this already great feature. More and more people are coming to expect that clicking the field of item to be copied, will also copy it.

Hello, welcome to WordPress Core Trac and thank you for opening this ticket,

The ticket was discussed during today’s accessibility team meeting and the decision is to close this request as it would introduce too much undesirable side effects.

Indeed, this input can be used to select the last part of the URL (for example) so we need the field to remain selectable.

A closed ticket don't means we can’t discuss (and maybe reopen) it. Feel free to comment with further context if needed.

Thanks for the nice reply, I know the Slack conversation wasn't as nice. I'll put more thought into future tickets.
