This is a follow-up to #43999.

Please, add Telegram and Whatsapp support to Social Media Menu on Twenty Sixteen bundled theme. Support for these icons were added to Twenty Seventeen and Twenty Twenty. Can it be added to Twenty Sixteen as well?

Hi there!

Thanks for the ticket.

Twenty Sixteen bundle theme use genericons font CSS for those fonts and not use Telegram and Whatsapp icons.

As far as I see Facebook, Twitter and other social icons are not generic icon font. I just uploaded a screenshot of some of the icons available in Twenty Sixteen. Here you can see them live (at the bottom of the page):

  • Keywords 2nd-opinion added
  • Type changed from defect (bug) to feature request

The link above shows the Genericons Neue font now; the Genericons version used in Twenty Sixteen would be the one in the Automattic repository.

Adding more icons to the font probably should be done there, if anyone has an interest in that.

  • Keywords close added

I agree with @sabernhardt that adding any new icons should be done in the Genericons repo, not through the theme. I am going to add the close keyword as a recommendation based on this.

Thank you for the collaboration, it is gong to benefit more doing at the source of the icons.
