Description
The “Twenty …” themes display a footer that reads “Proudly powered by WordPress.”
People often prefer to hide this footer. I can't speak for everyone, but I want to hide it, and I'd like to discuss why.
When text appears on a website, it’s speaking for the site owner. Just as it would be improper for a theme to display a copyright notice claiming copyright of the site’s contents for the theme developers, I feel it’s inappropriate to claim the website owner is proud to use WordPress.
The developers of WordPress have plenty to be proud about — it’s fine software. But as a WordPress user, I’m not proud to be using it. I just chose the best tool for the job.
I believe fewer people would object to a notice reading simply, “Powered by WordPress” — which is at least accurate — as opposed to one that makes a false claim about how they feel about it.
Likely, a duplicate for #3931
