#52706 closed defect (bug) (reported-upstream)

The top add block option is missing. No plus mark.

There isn’t a plus mark above the first block at the top, when we mouse over the first block, when editing pages. We have to add a block below the first block and then move it up to the top everytime. Can you fix this please?

I have a fresh install of WordPress without any plugins loaded. Twenty Twenty-One is the theme. The problem is still there even if I reload everything.

Current version: 5.7-RC2-50482

Microsoft Edge is up to date.

The cache and cookies have been cleared on all browsers.

The browsers were loaded without any extension and reinstalled after removing them with Revo as well. Just to be sure. Firefox and Chrome. Edge is a fresh copy as I almost never use it.

Also if it’s okay, can the a.screen-reader-shortcut tab index get a fix in this update as well?

Google Lighthouse audit:
Some elements have a [tabindex] value greater than 0
A value greater than 0 implies an explicit navigation ordering. Although technically valid, this often creates frustrating experiences for users who rely on assistive technologies.

Thanks for reporting; could you share a screenshot of this please?

Can you make it so

is clickable as well when this missing plus mark gets fixed please? We can mouseover the whole line now but only have a tiny area for adding the block (24px x 24px). This slight tweak would be a great accessibility improvement (width x 30px).

Hello @a4jpcom ,

Welcome to WordPress Core Trac! Thank you for this ticket!

I was able to reproduce it on 5.6.2 and 5.7 RC2.

I've reported it upstream in this issue as this functionality is part of Gutenberg.

Closing this ticket as it will handled upstream.
