Closing this as wontfix. We'll definitely give some thought to adding indicators for external links throughout the site, to give users better information to decide whether or not to open a link in a new tab, but we won't force links to open in new tabs unless it's contextually necessary.

    11I think it would be better for a UX to open a support page about the new WordPress update in the new tab instead of the same tab as the website administration originally is open in.
