Description
Hello,
I uploaded a pptx file to the web. Then I inserted a link to it. The problem is when I enable the "open in new tab" option.
Opera, Opera GX and Chrome - open a new untitled tab that closes immediately and nothing more happens.
Firefox - displays the file download window.
Edge - opens two new tabs - untitled and the presentation itself (probably via PowerPoint Online)
When I deactivated the "open in new tab" option, a file download window will appear in all browsers.
It is logical that the browser cannot handle the presentation as with pdf, but this is a trivial mistake.
Please repair. Either the "open in new tab" option should be disabled or the file should be downloaded regardless of whether I enable the option or not.¨
Thank you
Hello, welcome to WordPress Core Trac and thank you for opening this ticket!
Sadly, this is not something WordPress can handle. A link is a link, and WordPress cannot command the final behavior of the user agent (= the browser). The final decision on whether to open the link or not is ultimately up to the browser.
This wouldn't be a good thing, as the behavior you have depends on the extensions/add-ons you activated on your browser, and also on the software you installed on your computer.
So to sum up: there is nothing we (WordPress developers) can repair here. We just have to generate links using the HTML standards, just like we do now :)
Thanks again for the ticket
