Description
This may have been covered in a previous ticket, but I could not find it. On any site I'm editing, currently 5.8.1, I cannot get a menu item to show the check box for opening in a new tab. This is true in both the "appearance -> customize -> menus -> custom links" and "appearance -> menus -> custom links". I've got several menu external links that require opening in a new tab, but the capability is gone. This does not seem to be theme related, and I've been able to repeat this in multiple wp sites with multiple servers. So it's got to be core.
The support page for menus still shows that this should be available, yet it is not. (See image with "open in a new tab" check box clearly visible in current WP documentation.

Will this be added back in with the next version? Is there a reasons this is no longer available? If this is covered elsewhere, please let me know.

Thanks, Timonthy! I'm glad it was something simple!

Hi @laughter-on-water,
Welcome back to Trac!
These options are still available, but they aren't always displayed. Try opening the "Screen Options" pulldown on the top right hand side of your screen. Then, enable the "Link Target" checkbox. In the Customizer this is hidden behind the "gear" icon on the top right of the Customizer below the "Publish" button.
