Filter 'Sign Out' & Profile link in Admin Area

Reported by: csogilvie Owned by: westi
Milestone: Priority: normal
Severity: minor Version: 2.3.1
Component: Administration Keywords: has-patch
Focuses: Cc:

Description

It is possible to filter the login and logout links on the main Wordpress pages, but it is not possible to filter the Sign Out link in the Admin panel

Would it be possible for this to be added, along with the ability to filter the Profile link as well?

This would allow these to be changed (if desired by the Site Administrator) and also to enable more links to be added after the links if people wish to.

(I will attach a patch to this enhancement later on)

Filter signout and profile - patch v1

  • Keywords has-patch added

From the point of view of my reasons for submitting this (I need it for a project at work) I would like to ask that this be considered for 2.4.

Please provide feedback on the patch so I can make improvements if necessary.

  • Component changed from General to Administration
  • Keywords reporter-feedback added
  • Owner changed from anonymous to westi
  • Status changed from new to assigned

Can you provide us with some idea of what you want to achieve with this filter?

Do you want to:

  • Change the link destination
  • Change the link text
  • Add extra links

I would prefer to add more specific filters/actions if possible than just passing a nebulous string through the filter which may change and will be harder for plugins to manipulate than a simple filter on a link for example.

All of the above, essentially replicating what's done for the standard wp_loginout function used in the sidebar for the default template.

We have Wordpress integrated with Simple Machines forum (SMF)for a website run at work, where SMF handles all the authentication and login for the entire site. Wordpress's wp_loginout function creates a string and passed it to a filter which just outputs the corrected links, and we want to achieve this in the Admin Area.
