Description

Am setting up a new blog for someone and checking all the first steps after "the famous 5 minute install"

By default, in the editor, there are 2 tabs "visual, code"

and option "Use the visual editor when writing" can be de selected to hide visual

Why not a new option ?

editor tab sequence: visual, code OR code, visual

Closing as won't fix.

Changing positions in UI is bad.

Bug #3978 Visual Editor should remember your last tab setting
seems like a more elegant solution.

I agree that #3978 is elegant

But, pls give me some pointers to "changing positions in UI is bad"

How is this different to a customizable yahoo/google home page where different users can have different widgets at different locations ?

The analogy of customizing yahoo/google home page isn't equivalent. WordPress needs less options not more. Please don't reopen.
