Description

I updated all my WordPress sites (5 of them) to 6.0 from 5.9.3. Now, when I update a plugin, the sites becomes stuck in maintenance mode. I have to manually remove the .maintenance file to get the site out of maintenance mode. But as soon as I update another pluging, it gets stuck again.

I am not able to reproduce this. I've tried with both 6.0 and the latest trunk from SVN.

All my sites update through FTP. I know I'm unable to update WordPress through FTP due to #51170, so maybe this is related. I added another WordPress site on my server but this time set it to direct updates and on that sites, plugins update fine.

So I guess it has something to do with the update method.

Thank you for reporting this but it does seem to be as you mention, perhaps something to your setup. With that in mind, I am going to recommend that in this instance, we close this for now until we get more details along with confirmation that you are experiencing it.

Perhaps this might be a case where the support forums are better for diagnosing, but we would need to establish if this is still the case first.

My hope is that this has been resolved by now, and apologies for the time in response.
