Description

Our team was testing out the widgets to replace the legacy widgets and found that the Category Widget no longer has a heading above it like the previous version of the Category Widget did. Screenshot is attached.

Welcome to Trac and thanks for the report!

GB26170 mentions how the lack of a widget title would force end users "to use multiple steps to recreate their sidebar units" (that is, creating an additional block for the heading). New sites seem to have the heading grouped with the Categories block in the sample set of widgets.

Partially related: I think you only mean the heading for the list version of the Categories block, but WordPress 6.0 visually hides the label for the dropdown version. The Archives label was made visible, and soon users will have a choice between showing and hiding it (see GB41208), but the Categories block still would hide the label.

This discussion should continue on the Gutenberg repository, perhaps in the first issue (GB26170) and/or a new issue.
