This is just a suggestion:

I think that the current style is less productive than the legacy one. The right column has one a Save/Publish box with a blank zone below.

Should we have Post Author, Post Password, Post Slug and Discussion in the left column, less scrolling is needed then.

The sidebar design won't be changing for 2.5. Design suggestions are best done on the hackers list.
