Description

The form to add color to text was always a bit buggy with Gutenberg. But, since a few versions it doesn’t work anymore.

The area with colors appear below the right column. Some versions ago page could be moved to reveal the palette, but now it’s no more possible.

Hi and thanks for the ticket!

This panel seems to come from Advanced Rich Text Tools for Gutenberg plugin, which has not been updated for five years.

Its support forum has a few topics that mention the color selection, and you could add a new topic. However, the plugin may not be updated anymore because the Core editor has added features such as inline Code, Highlight colors, Subscript and Superscript.

Replying to sabernhardt:

Oh, you're right! I was using this plugin since so much time I totally forgot about it (and it seems it's not doing anything really useful at the moment, so I'm going to remove it). I'm very sorry for opening this useless ticket. :(

Since I'm here I'd like to ask you a question about color formatting: the good thing of Advanced Rich Text Tools is that I was able to select a part of text and apply a specific color. The basic function in WP seems to apply it to the whole paragraph. Is there an advanced option for that or do I have to manually edit it in HTML mode?

SUPEREDIT: I've just discovered the "highlight" function in the rolldown menu of the formatting bar. I guess it's what I was looking for. :)

I just want to report a microbug about it: as soon as I select a new color, the palette windows tries to hide itself but not enough:

Not a problem at all, since clicking anywhere will dismiss it, but still a tiny issue (I hope it's not another abandoned plugin!). :)

Thanks (and sorry again).

Well, looking in block toolbar's dropdown options is not so obvious when you are accustomed to finding similar settings in the sidebar :)

I did not experience the partially hidden color selection popover. My guess is that something else interferes with the transform property. You could try deactivating plugins one-by-one to find out if any of those causes the issue. You could also try switching to the Fullscreen mode to see if that helps, though you probably had the mode earlier and chose not to use it.

Thanks for your answer.

You're perfectly right. But I never used that menu, so I didn't know its contents. :P

Coming to the strange palette issue, so far I tried all these options:

  • Checking different browsers (Chrome and Safari) -> same behavior;
  • Disabling all plugins (one by one and all together) -> same behavior;
  • Temporally deleting style.css and wp-gutenberg.css -> same behavior;
  • Switching to Twenty Thirteen theme -> same behavior.

So I'm running out of ideas. :)

Maybe at this point, may it be related to OS? I'm using MacOS Ventura (13.5.1)... 🤔
