Description (last modified by )
In Twenty Seventeen Header Media, using an uploaded video will not show the video in the header. It works fine with a YouTube video URL, but not when the video is uploaded on the site.
Uploaded video does not show in the header on the customizer preview, and after publishing changes on the site. The header image (a plant) is displayed instead:
Using a YouTube URL works fine though, the video appears in the customizer preview and also after the changes are published on the site:

Could you check your browser console for errors? I have the sample MP4 video in the Customizer panel, with MediaElement.js controls there. Your image shows a black rectangle, which suggests to me that the page might have a script error.

Hi @sabernhardt I tested this again. Once the video is uploaded, it appears in the Customizer sidebar, in the preview on the right and also on the front page of the site.

Did you mean that
- the video did not load properly when you uploaded it within the Customizer and
- the video worked for you when you already had it uploaded to the site before visiting the Customizer to assign it to the theme?
I did not notice a problem either way in Firefox or Chrome with Windows, but maybe it is still a bug.

I am not able to reproduce the bug when selecting or uploading an mp4 using:
Chrome, Firefox on Windows 11
Chrome, Safari on MacOs 15.11.
WP 6.7.1.
The preview in the Customizer panel is black with a video icon when the Customizer fails to use the file because the file is too large. But then there is an error notice in the panel explaining why, so it does not match the submitted screenshots.

I am also unable to replicate this and based on that for now I am going to close this. That does not mean if we get more information we can't reopen or create another issue. It just means for now we have several people unable to replicate. Thank you everyone for collaboration on this.
header image shows instead of uploaded video, in Customizer
