#62554 new defect (bug)

Front/Home page showing Date and URL on Search Engines now? This is a no-no for SEO

Description

When building new wordpress websites, (realized this started happening on WordPress 6.6) your home page is now showing on SERP's with a date and the full URL is now listed instead of no date and Site Name (without the .com or dashes etc). However, when adding new pages that's not the home page, the date won't show on SERP. So it seems to be directly focused on the homepage once you've set it in Settings.

So far I have not had any issues ranking but the look and feel on SERP's doesn't strike "official" like the other older websites and given you need to change the date manually and republish to change it on SERP's. It's either suspicious looking and further on (years) if you don't republish it will surely affect your SERP rankings.

Was this recently changed? and can it be reverted?

  • Keywords reporter-feedback added
  • Version changed from 6.7.1 to 6.6

Hi @digitalkingdom and welcome to WordPress Trac!

Can you please include more details about how to reproduce this issue, and any examples of where this is happening?

For example, a list of the reading settings on your site and information about if you see a different result depending on if you are using the home (blog) or a static front page.

Since you wrote that this started happening on 6.6, I changed the version on the ticket to 6.6.

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
