Description (last modified by sabernhardt)

As seen in https://iili.io/39UevNj.png. In the licence.txt file on our WordPress sites https://cafelog.com/ site produces illegal gambling content and has received backlinks from millions of sites. I kindly request that you intervene in this.

I think the domain was recently purchased. https://iili.io/39UUdB4.png

Hello and welcome to WordPress Core Trac,

Thanks for opening this ticket. I added a pull request to remove the URL but keep the B2/Cafelog credit.

Alternatively to removing the link entirely, which I think is generally acceptable, would could also change it to "formerly at cafelog[dot]com" on the copyright line and otherwise remove in other locations.

I would like to add that Hamza Erol is the one who found this first problem from Turkey.

@jeffpaul "formerly at cafelog[dot]com" sounds good to me. I updated the PR accordingly.

An archival link of the site can be found at https://web.archive.org/web/20241014185406/http://cafelog.com/, @JeffPaul what do you think of linking to that either directly or via a w.org redirect?

  • Summary changed from WordPress Licence.txt Problem to WordPress license.txt cafelog link issue

@peterwilsoncc ah nice, I had not thought of the Internet Archive, good idea. I think I still prefer the non-linked version as it feels less likely that someone will manage to click through to the current cafelog site (given concerns that it is / may turn into a spam site), but providing folks with a similar experience to the former cafelog URL via Internet Archive also is a valuable option. Noting my stance here is a weakly held opinion so I'll defer to @audrasjb for any final tweaks to get this to a resolution.

Does there need to be a URL attached to cafelog, especially in light of there not being an offical website?

#14 @johnbillion

My preference would also be to just remove the link and be done with it.

#15 @audrasjb

Then the the initial changeset would make more sense in that case.

In 59944:

Security: Remove Cafelog URL.

This changeset removes Cafelog links from licence.txt and readme.html files as the domain was purchased by another entity, providing unsafe content.

Props gencmedya, audrasjb, JeffPaul, peterwilsoncc, jorbin, johnbillion.
Fixes #63000.

In 59949:

General: Add noindex, nofollow meta tag to the readme.html file.

Site owners likely don't intend for the content of the readme.html file to be indexed, as it's unrelated to the site content.

Follow-up to [59944].

Props peterwilsoncc, sabernhardt, dd32, audrasjb, abcd95.
Fixes #63069.
