Description
Hello,
Sorry if this has been raised or addressed somewhere, as I did try to search for existing tickets related to this and could not find one, hence I have raised this.
I feel like a great time to revisit how Core handles search sorting.
While the previous version introduced some basic relevance sorting (like prioritizing title matches), the default search still relies way too heavily on post date. It often buries highly relevant content just because it is older. Right now, most users are forced to install plugins like Relevanssi just to get a standard, modern search experience.
It would be great to see the core search algorithm improved to better prioritize keyword weight and true relevance over publish date. Alternatively, giving site admins a native dropdown in the Reading settings to choose between "Sort by Date" and "Sort by Relevance" would be a huge improvement out of the box.
