Image Uploader and Suhosin Extension

This may be something you choose not to change, but I thought I'd shed some light on it:

With the media uploader, if the max_execution_time is set to 30 (Which was the default on my host), on any page that displays more than 37 images (such as gallery where there are 60 pictures), you cannot edit any pictures beyond the 37th one (or right around there). You can "show" them, and change the fields, but when you click on "Save all changes", only the changes on the first 37 images will be saved. Also, the "Insert into post" button does not work right beyond the 37th image.

I really don't think it's an actual time-out issue, because for me (with the max_execution_time set to 30) the script was finishing in 3-5 seconds... not 30. I am assuming that there is some piece of code somewhere that causes the max_execution_time to be improperly used or something... I haven't been able to find anything (though I am not a very learned programmer).

Can anyone else verify this? Set max_execution_time to 30 and max_input_time (don't know if it does anything) to 60, and see if you can edit the first and last pictures in a gallery with 50 pictures (using a tab that shows all 50 at once).

Aaaand, I'm an idiot. When I added the php.ini file I didn't realize that I basically set all other options to their defaults. So the answer to the problem is somewhere in the php.ini settings, and the defaults do work, but it has nothing to do with max_execution_time. I'm currently going through option-by-option to see if I can find the culprit. Please stand by.

  • Summary changed from Image Uploader and max_execution_time to Image Uploader and Suhosin Extension

Ok, I've found the problem. The suhosin extension 0.9.20 and WordPress don't like each other. Once I disabled it, the WordPress uploader worked fine.

Is this something we should seek to fix, or simply document it for future users who experience the problem?

If its anything like the mod_security issues then all that can be done is to submit it upstream to the suhosin devs to get them to either allow the legit call, Or to disable the flash uploader on systems where its detected.
