#7360 closed enhancement (wontfix)

Add post revision control settings to writing settings screen

Description

At the moment, controlling the post revision functionality is done in wp-config.php. Would it not be more user friendly to allow users to turn restrict the number of post revisions retained or turn them on or off through the writing settings screen?

Friendliest is not cluttering settings with an option that most people won't care about. :-)

I agree that there is no need to cause clutter where it is not needed but I'll leave this open in case anyone has anything to add.

As far as I'm concerned the WordPress admin panel has quite enough options already. This is an advanced setting and belongs in wp-config.php.

Have a quick Google for wordpress disable revisions and see the number of people who want to know how to turn this off. If ever there was an options that was needed, it's for this.

There also needs to be a proper way to turn off autosave, as opposed to setting it to a very long interval.

Has anyone actually bothered to Google? Or read some of the posts at the Wordpress Support forum? Lots of people are asking for this feature.

It's funny how Wordpress developers are quite happy to clutter up the interface (not to mention the database) with a new, complicated, and wide-reaching feature (revision control) yet won't add one small checkbox to the settings panel to allow it to be switched off.

Just a quick note: I've released a plugin which allows you to define the Revisions default setting from the admin, As well as on a per-post/page basis: http://dd32.id.au/wordpress-plugins/revision-control/

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
