Description
I suggest the addition of "handles"/tabs below the header area for the page options and "add new post" favorites link that will be in the 2.7 admin design. This will make the header area less cluttered (esp. given that breadcrumbs will be shown as well) and present (at least) the "page options" menu trigger in a graphically more appealing way. If done in combination with a reduction of the (huge) font-size in which the blog name is displayed, this will allow a reduction of the height of the header area and thus add to the new "slim" look of WP. Rough photoshop dummy attached.

Good ideas, but this is better suited to the hackers list and wordpress-dev channel where we're discussing the visual design. All of the visuals will be changing soon. Comps that we can all view and discuss are forthcoming.
