#8890 closed enhancement (invalid)

Copy email address from forums to trac too

Description

Trac shares passwds with the forums. You should also share email addresses too!

What use is a bug tracked without each user having a known email address?

You should copy it over from the forums just like you do the passwds. I assume every forums user entered an email address upon registration.

If they really want no email, they can erase it through "settings".

( The only way one learns it is blank by default is to read

By the way, you have the craziest defaults here.

Each case is the opposite of what's needed, by me at least:

One only gets mail about the changes one makes themselves.

One gets no mail about the changes others make to one's bug. (Unless
one makes an effort to turn on the Cc in each and every one of ones
bugs.)

Dear sirs, on
http://trac.wordpress.org/wiki/TracNotification
we see

When reporting a new ticket or adding a comment, enter a valid email
address in the reporter, assigned to/owner or cc field. Trac will
automatically send you an email when changes are made to the ticket
(depending on how notification is configured)

Well, perhaps it was all my mistake, signing up as jidanni instead of
jidanni@…

And now I have a screenful of bugs, and no way of turning mail
notification on for all of them at once with one click.

Please set my account to "notification on, just like bugzilla, or 99%
of other bug tracker systems".

OK, I am suddenly starting to get other's changes.

(Not related to this old SpamAssassin stanza to keep my own at bay:)

header __J_TRAC_COMMENT X-Trac-Ticket-URL =~/\#comment/
rawbody __J_TRAC_MY_COMMENT /\+-+\n(Changes|Comment) \(by jidanni\):\n/m
meta   J_TRAC_OTHERS __J_TRAC_COMMENT && ! __J_TRAC_MY_COMMENT
score J_TRAC_OTHERS -7

This is detailed on the front page of this site.

If you would like to receive notification when a ticket you have submitted or are interested in changes then please configure your email address in trac after you have logged in by going to the settings page.

Yes, I am saying just like you copy their password, you can copy their email address, saving them that step. The user can then delete his address if he really doesn't want mail.

If you then add your user name to the cc on a ticket you will be notified of changes on the ticket.

That is not true for the tickets one opens. For them one will get mail Cc or not.
