#8943 closed defect (bug) (worksforme)

latest.tar.gz 1.6 MB, not 1.0

Severity: trivial Version:
Component: WordPress.org Site Keywords:

Description

http://wordpress.org/download/
says
Download .tar.gz — 1.0 MB
but it is infact much larger:

2009-01-24 08:06:14 (26.4 KB/s) - `latest.tar.gz' saved [1622530]

There is a bug report link on the bottom of the download page, but I've not gotten a response to previous reports to it.

I bet the .zip file is even bigger too.

I cant remember a time when those filesize estimates WERE correct.. (this has been mentioned before, unsure if it was here, or #wordpress-dev)

  • Resolution set to worksforme
  • Status changed from new to closed

Looks good to me, 1.8mb and 1.5mb respectively.

I'd say you need a script to give an accurate figure. We see "Download .tar.gz — 1.5 MB", but (with 2.7.1):

latest.tar.gz' saved [1624416]
$ du -h latest.tar.gz
1.6M latest.tar.gz

P.S. Sending HTTP HEAD does not give the size, unlike other servers.
