Improve widgets admin page to show more than one sidebar at a time

Description

As more and more themes are taking advantage of the powerful widget functionality to put user definable spaces in the footer, multiple side bars and even in the page itself. Sometimes this results in themes with from 5 to 10 widetized areas.

I suggest a full redesign of the widgets admin page so that multiple widgets can be displayed together.

If this is too much to ask, then perhaps a minor suggestion for improvement. Right now when you need to switch between widgetized areas, it is a multi click process. why not switch areas when the drop down menu changes, why should you need to click 'Show'.

yes, wonderful! but how can the community participate in the discussion or give input. For example, ideas like the one on this site are very welcome: http://ptahdunbar.com/wordpress/what-is-the-future-of-wordpress-themes/

also, once widgets get improved, they will be more than just 'appearance' and will be used more, so it would be good if they were pulled out into the main top level navigation. (ps. I reopened the ticket because I wasn't sure if this would get read otherwise, sorry if that's a no no :)
