Description
There is an inconsistency with the way the plugin links behaves with the new plugin install features.
On the dashboard clicking the plugin's name in the Plugins widget links you to its webpage, however clicking on the plugins name on the install plugin page shows the Thickbox with the information.
In my opinion it should behave the same both times.
What else is strange to me that, on the plugin install page, the status bar shows me the links points to the plugin's Homepage, however clicking on it shows the description - not sure if this is intended.

Clicking anywhere on the plugin row in the plugins install listing, will cause the thickbox to load.
That overrides the actual link to the plugins homepage, If you "Open in new window" or "Open in new Tab" or Right click and select "Open" on that link.. It loads the plugins homepage instead of the install/information dialogue.
Ryans mentioned his dislike of that before. IMO, The plugin install screen needs to be 2.7'ised in terms of the actions, much like whats been done to the Plugins page.
As for the widget, Well.. Thats why the "Install" link is there, to load the installer.. Maybe that could be removed and the link just directs to the thickbox, Sure, Its an extra step to get to the homepage, but the dialogue should tell the user all they want to know.
I'm re-opening this as a UI issue,

Removed the install onclick, see [11225]. As there's only one action there, perhaps better to add a button under the plugin's name, that would make it more visible.
IMHO best would be to have two column listing there: name, rating and install button on the left, description (usually quite long) on the right.

kind of related #9576, it's about the size of the plugin description in search results. maybe capping the descriptions in the other listings as well?

This behaves now the same in current trunk.

This is fixed as well in current trunk now.
Therefore this is not a defect any longer. Everything else is an Enhancement.

As of 3.1 these two issues have been addressed with the introduction of explicit 'Install' and 'Details' links on the Plugins -> Add New page, and the introduction of an 'Install' link on the Plugins dashboard widget.
when I click the install link, both plugins / add new and the dashboard widget open a thickbox.
clicking the plugin's name will, in both cases, open the plugin's page on wordpress.org
