Closing the following as dups, pending "the big search overhaul" that may never come:

• #5149 -- search everywhere (with committed patch)
• #9230 -- search in post and pages and both
• #5525 -- also search for posts with search query as terms (tags, cats, ...)
• #5054 -- allow to negate keyword on search
• #7394 -- assign greater weight to posts with search query in title
• #7647 -- search in attachment descriptions

I've been using WordPress for years, and I've been astonished how mediocre the internal search is, but I sort of assumed that it will be fixed eventually. But no, no change whatsoever in the internal search since 2006. I've been disappointed again and again on every update. Simple things like: 1) Returning the results in order of relevance; 2) Highlighting the matches; 3) Showing only the text snippets surrounding the matches; etc. simple things, which have become the standard for any search engine, are still not available in WordPress. Shame, real shame!

Meh, I'm not *that* sanguine, and I've seen much worse on this trac over the years. ;-)

Look… feel free to close this ticket too and re-open the old tickets, or leave them all closed as dup/wontfix, I won't mind either way — I'm pretty sure I'm subscribed to all of them, and at the end of the day these have been dead for all intents and purposes for years.
