Description

After the incident reported with this bug http://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/15108 I wanted to delete all the extra categories and have the posts be reassigned to the default category.

Deleting the categories actually resulted in the posts becoming uncategorized, see screenshot: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bunny/5077755355/

FWIW, wordpress edit posts screen does not allow selection of posts with "no category".

In this case, I changed my default category just before deleting the extra categories (to "ebookers.ch" -- slug = "ebookers"), child category of "My Projects" which already existed.

So to be clear, I created a new category ("ebookers.ch"), then changed my default category to it, batch-deleted the extra categories I wanted to get rid of, changed my default category back to what it was initially ("Stuff that doesn't fit") and then viewed my list of posts, and discovered they were "uncategorized".

I'm not sure we need to support selecting posts with *no* category at this stage.

Categories are supposed to be always 1 per post at present, and until that changes, I don't think we need a unattached filter option.

Until the Uncatgorized category gets pulled, or an option to disable that functionality, I'm going to close this.
