Move the Search toolbar item to be near other site-wide items

Description
The toolbar is arranged in the following fashion:
From left to right:
- Network-wide items
- Site-wide items
- Post-specific items
On the far right:
- Account-related items
Jane pointed out to me that the Search item is site-wide, but is currently placed after the post-specific items. This can cause some confusion (two items appear randomly in the middle of your front-end menu), and makes my IA sense tingle.

Matt expressed a strong preference for search to be flush right, to the right of the howdy/user. I don't like that placement, but I don't like any of the others either, so am thinking at least putting it to the right will make someone happy? I think a couple of core devs liked it there a while back as well.

I don't mind it. It doesn't look bad on WP.com. It wouldn't be a change from 3.2's placement. It is probably more obvious than as a special action in the middle of a bunch of other icons that all open up menus. It also wouldn't cause nearly as many menus to shift around on open.
Side note, what I don't like how it continues to grow within the toolbar, but that's not cause I don't like the animation. It's actually really slick. Rather, when it does grow too big, it has the ability to push menu items off the bar (or it might appear below the bar). However, now that everything is icons, there's much more free space, and this is less of a concern. In 3.4 maybe we can make either search appear below the bar (which I think could be designed to look really good) or cut off the items furthest from left (but not in the right-side menu) when we have too much cluttered up there.
That said, the Search item's current sliding messes with items even more.
