Inconsistencies in the Codex - using the "old" header

Description

As per a lot of sites now on WordPress.org I think it would add to the site's consistency if the Codex header was changed to the newer, improved design I've seen.

If help is needed, I'm willing to help code this.

MediaWiki is a dork, and Otto has yet to fix it. It has it's own templating and has to be edited directly.

(Sidebar - Otto, I've been abusing my MediaWiki install and mimicking my WP theme in it for years, so if you need help, you know where I'm at ;) )

I've only seen small comments about the Codex using MediaWiki, but does anyone else think it would be worth converting the Codex to WordPress. With the dawn of the "make" sites I think now is the time. Its something I'd volunteer to work on.

Yes and no. I'm a huge proponent for 'The right tools for the job' (after all, SVN isn't WP, though we did integrate them some). MediaWiki is, to me, way better for the codex aspect of WP. What is this code, what did it do, etc

You've seen my posts on make.wordpress.org/support so you know we're building a 'handbook' there. I think that handbooks, i.e. 'This is how you use WP.' things, are fantastic on WordPress. But the functions stuff, really, is best on the codex. Mind you, we're still hashing it all out, so don't expect an overnight change ;)

I'd love to see the codex become the code repo, and the handbooks (core and support, and later themes and plugins?) become WP curated stuff. Let anyone update the core code functions, but keep the 'how-tos' a little more managed.

Replying to ipstenu:That makes perfect sense, and after reading your comment I agree. I'd still like to help out with documentation! Thanks for you comment, has me on a better track now.

Just wondering should I close this ticket?
