Hey folks,
I am working on a theme and wanted to know if I was stepping on anyone's toes by -(1) including tables to control the output, (2) How I should make sure my widget area is functional and begin including plugins, (3) The footer area/ did I do this right?

I look forward to the many comments. I will be online as much as possible to make this work. It's a passion project and I know that I might not finish till November or so... but I want a theme of my own!

Thanks for creating a trac ticket however I think your question is better suited for the support forum or #wordpress IRC channel. Trac is intended for core bugs/features. As for your question about wiget areas I would start here http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/register_sidebar.
