Plupload: Unable to upload directly from mobile device's camera

Reported by: henrywright's profile henry.wright Owned by:
Milestone: Priority: normal
Severity: normal Version: 4.0
Component: External Libraries Keywords:

Description

Testing was done on the following handsets:

  • Chrome on a Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini running Android 4.2.2
  • Chrome on a Samsung Galaxy Ace II running Android 4.1.2
  • Chrome on a HTC sense 5.0 running Android 4.2.2

Demo code: http://jsfiddle.net/385shjqf/

Steps to reproduce:

The following will work:

  1. Click on Select files and choose an image from your mobile phone's gallery. The image's filename does appear on screen.
  2. You can now click on Upload files to start the upload

The following fails:

  1. Click on Select files and take a photo with your phone's camera. The image's filename doesn't appear on screen.
  2. Click Upload files to see that nothing happens

Notes

  • The problem doesn't happen at all when I use Chrome my tablet running Android 4.4.2 or on my desktop.
  • I've also had a report from someone using an iPhone 5 that the problem doesn't happen for them.
  • I asked an Android 4.4.2 user to test and they couldn't reproduce the problem.

So it seems as though there's a problem with uploading directly from a mobile device's camera but only phones running a pre 4.4.2 version of Android are affected.

I already created an issue over at Plupload's GitHub repo but considering the library is in core, I thought it was worth reporting here too.

@henry.wright You closed the Plupload issue on GitHub. Can this be closed?

@johnbillion I no longer have access to a pre-4.2.2 Android so can't test this at my end. However, I did test again today using my Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini running Android 4.2.2 and that worked.
