Description
When running an RC or beta version, if a new RC or beta version is released, WordPress does not seem to detect that there is an update available.
Can this be looked into, so that it is clearer when one is available?

Well, you know how it has the number displaying the number of updates available? For RC/Beta, it doesn't do that.
However, on the Updates page, it does say an update is available.
But, straight after updating, it still says an update is available...
An updated version of WordPress is available. You are using a development version of WordPress. You can update to the latest nightly build automatically or download the nightly build and install it manually:

Yes, development versions *always* have a update available, which is the latest nightly (even if you're running the latest nightly) - because of that, we don't display an update nag. Similarly, background updates will update the site twice daily if enabled.
The update bubbles (In the main admin menu, and toolbar) read 2 updates available when a core update is available - This looks like it's a side effect of #32613
This works for me, RC/beta's are classified as development releases, which continuously receive nightly updates.
It sounds like the API requests are probably failing for some reason on your configuration, what do you exactly see on the updates page?
