Description

img longdesc has the capability to helping assistive technologies further explain what an image means via screen readers and low vision users. It's also a great image search tool to provide further detail around images.

I would add this for image management in posts and featured page/post images and update codex. And, in all stock themes bundled with WP.

img longdesc was reinstated into the HTML5 specifications.

We discussed this in the wpa11y bug scrub and we think that there is not enough browser/AT support jet for longdesc.
Also using the attachment page for this may need some rethinking.

Maybe in a few years.
