Wordpress 4.7 Breaks the Customizer with Elegant Themes Extra theme

Customizer doesn't load the live preview, and the customization options in the left sidebar don't work (can't open them) - and there is only one drop down menu available: "Widgets". Called my host support to fix the issue. They upgraded me to PHP 7, but no luck. Eventually he found that it was an issue with WP 4.7. After getting downgraded to Version 4.5.3, everything works now.

This sounds like a theme issue. Did you test by switching to the default Twenty Seventeen, and seeing if the customizer works. If not, then it's a theme issue.

My support guy did tell me to switch back to my old theme, but when I did so it broke the site. I'm not sure what he did in the back end, but he got it working on the old theme first, then when I switched back to the new theme, it was ok. I tried to ask for specifics on what he did, but the only thing he said was that he upgraded to PHP 7, and downgraded the Wordpress version. He may have done something else though.

What other plugins are active?

Most customizer not loading issues I have seen end up being related to a plugin conflict.

I really do feel this was something either related to your theme or something that combined with one of your plugins @smithy468. Reading your comment I think you are saying it is resolved now? That's great if the case.

I'll close the ticket but if you do get issues again and it doesn't seem just theme related or combined with plugins, please report again.
