#44150 closed enhancement (wontfix)

Consider adding a privacy policy confirmation checkbox to the register screen

Description

Consider adding a privacy policy confirmation checkbox just below the password field on the register screen in case there exists a privacy policy page. IMHO it is needed for a better GDPR compliance as upon registration they will need to be able to opt it in.

Hallo there :)

I am busy tackling the backlog of privacy tickets.

Could you please help me understand what exactly it is that you would like the checkbox for?
There is already a link to the privacy policy on the login page.
Why do you not feel that this is sufficient?

I'm not opposed to a checkbox. I'm just trying to understand exactly what you are trying to achieve so that we can help make this actionable.

  • Resolution set to wontfix
  • Status changed from new to closed

The goal of a Privacy policy, or privacy statement, is to inform people about which personal data is being processed for a certain goal. It is legally not necessary to consent to the privacy statement as a whole. Under GDPR, if you ask for consent, it should be for a very specific purpose and also given freely. Forcing visitors that want to register to consent to everything you have mentioned in your privacy statement would be considered a bad practice.
You could however use a checkbox upon registration for something like a Terms and Conditions document, but that's a different topic.
