Images: Option to control when to create different image dimensions

Hello, I believe that wp miss the ability to control when to create different image dimensions.

Because i have see that wasting space from the disk of the server without reason.

Example: When we create a gallery with the native wp gallery create dozens of different image dimensions and in fact use only the thumbnail because shows the full size with the lightbox.

Its great if you add the ability to disable to create different image dimensions in any case that we want.
