Image Caption Should Not Show In Excerpts (of plugins) via WP Core

Description

Hello,

The proposal of Standard posts format currently shows captions in excerpts, (if) image is first with caption (then) the caption is displayed in excerpts. The proposal needs to have paragraph text show in the excerpts first, not the image caption as it is recognized as text/paragraph. In addition, button text shows first if it is first in the format, as this text is rendered similar as image caption. In the standard post format, the paragraph text should always show first (regardless if image is first). If image or gallery format is chosen, it would be applicable to show the captions first, although, that may be decided also, for paragraph text to be first possibly. Thank you.

Best regards.

Hello @vvt10551,

I'm having difficulty understanding this report.

From what I can understand, you're suggesting that the display of various post formats should be in a different format than you're currently experiencing?

Are you referring to the Editor interface, or the public front-end display of the site?

Also, please note, that Post Format display may be influenced by the Theme in use on the site, it may help to include a screenshot of the display you're refering to.

Hello @dd32,

Thank you for your prompt response. Hopefully additional examples in response will provide the necessary adjustments.

From what I can understand, you're suggesting that the display of various post formats should be in a different format than you're currently experiencing? That is correct, mainly to have the paragraph text show first even if image caption is first, particularly standard post format.

Are you referring to the Editor interface? Editor interface.

The themes suggest either theme formats, or plugins being the issue, however, upon having no plugins or themes, this seems to be an issue with the WP core format.

I.e.:

As you can see here: https://prnt.sc/Utzricx2ViZw of https://vitalytennant.com/debt-101-types-of-debts-and-how-to-utilize-them/ post.
Debt 101 post: https://prnt.sc/FObdJn7K0RIC (https://prnt.sc/-VE1oix6SqCF - this is image caption in post) Debt 101 post has WordPress Gutenberg image block with caption "click here..." (no plugins pertaining to post)

This is the same issue with image blocks and button blocks of plugins:

The button text (any text) in this case "Collect", is showing in the excerpts when the first image is used in posts. Homepage (https://vitalytennant.com/) content slider https://prnt.sc/QJz8fosZEIrQ and content (https://vitalytennant.com/content/) page slider https://prnt.sc/3mS8XB88i9SU, as well as the widget (if posts are trending with Collect as first image) on every article https://prnt.sc/zUmhcF6qiONo. Image captions may show up in RSS feeds, although button text definitely shows up in RSS feeds.

Thank you.

Best regards.

Are you requesting that in the Standard post format, excerpts should always skip image captions and button text and instead show the first paragraph text, while in Image/Gallery formats it may still be acceptable for captions to appear first?

Replying to stevenoks:

Yes, absolutely. In posts the excerpts should always show prior to the image (including if image and its context such as caption or button overlay is before the initial excerpt / sentence / paragraph).

The websites / blogs that post images with captions only (image format), this would make sense for the image caption (not button text overlay) to show. Unless those who are not photographers, want (need) to override this rule as the content (excerpts of initial sentence / paragraph) overrides the image (and its context) at all times.

Thank you.

Best regards.
