Pingbacks not deactivating in sticky posts

I just created a sticky post on my site and published it with a tick in pingbacks. Because I had 10 links leading to other pages on my site, I choose to edit that post and untick the pingback option. However, on doing so and reposting the article as a sticky still. I was getting pingbacks still. In the end I had to delete the article and create another sticky with pingbacks de-activated from the start to stop them happening.

you're ticking the wrong option. the one you're ticking is to receive pingbacks. the one that sends them is under settings / discussions.
