#59192 new defect (bug)

New image crop interface don't work in windows 10. Scale works.

Description

Win 10, 64GB RAM, Plenty SSD
Shared hosting, Dreamhost
Browsers tried: Chrome, Brave, Firefox, even Opera...
Loving the new image-edit interface concept, but:

Media -> Select Image -> Edit Image -> Crop -> AR: 1:1 -> Apply Crop -> ... Nothing
Save Edits remains gray. No changes made.

Media -> Select Image -> Edit Image -> Scale -> New Dim: 500w -> Scale ... "Image Saved" notice. "Save Edits" remains gray. Changes saved.

I'm trying to scale and crop an image. It looks like a better workflow than before, but this crop is still a no-go.

I am pretty familiar with the old method, so the new method will certainly be an improvement. I use WordPress's crop function regularly. I'd love to see the fixed asap.

Hope this helps.

  • Keywords reporter-feedback added; changes-requested removed

So this seems like a possible JS issue, but I'm not able to reproduce it.

@laughter-on-water Can you document what plugins if any you have activated, and whether this still happens when using a default theme?

@dickmoomaw Can you re-test this with your plugins disabled?

Replying to joedolson:

Not editing JS every day, but yeah, my thougths exactly.

Retested with all plugins disabled. Same problem.
Thought it might be the .jpeg thing (because for a while, you couldn't crop any file ending in .jpeg.)
So I worked with a png too. That actually brought to light another problem.
When you crop with aspect ratio 1:1 and the image is wider than tall, it produces a red-left-border notification error:

Selected crop ratio exceeds the boundaries of the image. Try a different ratio.

Perhaps the inability to crop and this new cropping error are related. The error is repeatable on both the live and lab systems. It does not matter what type of image (png/jpg) is being cropped.

Also tried it on my plugin-lab site just for this kind of thing. Still would not work even with all plugins disabled. Different Theme. I hope this helps.

Below are the themes and plugins installed on the sites I tested.

Not browser related, not theme related. Not plugin conflict related.

I hope this helps.

Hi, @laughter-on-water! Are you able to report whether this is still an issue for you?

I haven't yet been able to reproduce the issue, so at this point I don't have any working theories to tackle. If you can provide an update, I'd greatly appreciate it.
