Insert PDF Thumbnail into Editor

Description (last modified by SergeyBiryukov)

[38949] is awesome, but the next logical move is to allow content editors to easily insert the PDF thumbnail into the Editor upon Insert Media.

There will need to be a UI for allowing the content editor to choose whether to insert the image or the textual link. The easiest place for this to live without a major UI overhaul would be in the Insert Media workflow itself.

In fact the "Size" pull-down menu doesn't really do anything right now for PDFs, so it would be a good place to add an option "Document Link Only", and then honour the other sizes when selected and actually insert the image.

This is close to being a bug because of the displayed Attachment Display Settings box being displayed. It creates the impression that an image will be inserted into the post, not just the title with link.

Agreed! The Attachment Display Settings box makes it appear that a user should be able to insert an image size of their choice.

This feature would be complete if thumbnails could be inserted in the post. Actually, I see it as the main reason why we need thumbnails to be generated. Any plan soon to implement this?

Any update on this? This would be a VERY useful feature.

Yeah, I'm pretty amazed this hasn't been implemented. I just spent ages persuading imagemagick to automatically create thumbnails of my PDFs, and then I have no option to get them on the public website? That's actually pretty weird.

The hard work - getting the thumbnails from the PDFs - had been done.

It's a feature I would use on loads of my sites if it worked properly.
