#22029 closed feature request (fixed)

Install multiple plugins

Reported by: knutsp's profile knutsp Owned by: obenland's profile obenland
Milestone: 4.6 Priority: normal
Severity: normal Version: 3.5
Component: Upgrade/Install Keywords: needs-patch shiny-updates
Focuses: administration Cc:

Description

The new favourite plugins list is very welcome. On this list, or in general, I would like to be able to install several selected plugins.

The use case is for site admins, pretty much the same use case as for the new favourites list. That featured would be really useful if one could install many plugins at a time, as one can upgrade many selected plugins at a time.

The use case when searching in other categories of plugins is not so obvious. It could be a special feature for the favourites list, or it could be available on all kinds of plugin search results.

I have e-mailed a few of the developers who have made similar plugins hoping to create some movement here.
As installing multiple plugins at once using favorites would be a really nice time saver.

Note: we are working on bulk plugin installs in the shiny updates feature plugin, contributions welcome: https://github.com/obenland/shiny-updates.

Also related: #31773 which covers the removal of bulk installs in a previous attempt.

Dont have access to wordpress.slack.com so will write it here.

Please if it is not much hassle and time demanding to give us option to mark (Tag) some chosen plugins in our Favorites list, and install those chosen with one click in backend. Multiple install at once is nice but would not save much time. When Favorites list is huge it is quickier to find all plugins via standard search in backend.

There are few plugins that goes on each website every time, 100%. If we just could give Tag to them inside our private Favorite list and then use this Tag as search keyword.

  • Yoast SEO
  • TinyMce Advanced
  • Adminimize
  • Some huge image upload resize plugin
  • CF7
  • Plugin organizer
  • Some Lightbox plugin
  • SpamShield

Just example, I know people prefer its own plugins. Main characteristic is they are present 100% on all websites.

Update/Install: Shiny Updates v2.

Gone are the days of isolation and feelings of "meh", brought on by The Bleak Screen of Sadness. For a shiny knight has arrived to usher our plugins and themes along their arduous journey of installation, updates, and the inevitable fate of ultimate deletion.

Why was this closed as fixed? I can't find how to install multiple plugins. Am I missing something?

It could be a wontfix after Shiny Updates, but not fixed.

It might not be fixed how you originally envisioned it would be handled, but from a plugin listing, just click install on multiple plugin cards and they'll all get queued up and installed without navigating away from the screen or having to wait for one to finish installing. Obviously requires Javascript

Do you want me to click a button in wp-admin while the thing is still working on a task? No, me not that stupid. After 12 years with this growing beast I have learned something about how not to treat dear WordPress. It halts, goes to maintenance and stays.

Well, I'll tip my bar tender on this feature.

Well done! ;-)
